While spring or summer were once the standard for the stylish, winter weddings have become quite fashionable in recent years. Many couples see it as the perfect way to make their weddings unique and memorable, rather than just one more event among many during the traditional wedding season. So if you and your intended favor winter weather, preferring ski trips at a snowy mountain resort to tropical beach vacations, a wedding this time of year may be just the way to celebrate your personality as a couple. And, winter weddings can be stunning, especially when the tones and textures of the season are incorporated into color schemes and d?cor.

Ice blue, gray, stark white and silver are beautiful as winter wedding colors for an atmosphere of modern, understated elegance. Crystal accents are perfect for this winter color scheme, like strands of sparking crystals hung from chandeliers. Crystal vases filled with white flowers or candles floating in crystal bowls will look wonderful set on tables layered with steel blue and white linens, Crystal place card holders or wedding favors work nicely with this look, or perhaps wedding bells with silver or crystal accents.

If you'll be having a rustic winter wedding, perhaps at your favorite ski lodge, warm earth tones, such as moss green, chocolate brown, copper and rust can create a warm and cozy ambiance. Lanterns make a lovely accent to a rustic winter wedding, as do candles and floral arrangements with mini pinecones and evergreen sprigs tucked between subtle blooms. Pine cone candles or mini lanterns as wedding favors can fit well with a rustic theme.

For a winter wedding with a bit of glamor, bolder colors and contrasts are the way to go. Perhaps you could try a palette that includes, red, cream and gold tones. Table linens of gold brocade can be set off beautifully by rich red floral arrangements. Red napkins tied with a gold ribbon or cream colored ones with a bright red ribbon can add a bit of drama to place settings, and elegant crystal roses or champagne flute candles as wedding favors will add just the right finishing touch.

Bringing the holiday spirit to a winter wedding is a popular option as well, with traditional holiday tones of red, green and gold. A holiday theme can be whimsical in tone, with gingerbread house centerpieces, bright red poinsettias, icicle lights and snowmen, or done in a elegant, formal fashion, with gold and silver bows, velvet wraps and pillar candles and sprigs of holly. Holiday cookies, gourmet chocolates, peppermints or ribbon candy tucked into a monogrammed favor box or tin are great wedding favors for a holiday theme.

Winter weddings have a lot of advantages to offer, with choices in color schemes and d?cor that just wouldn't work in any other season. So if you and your intended love the snowy season, dare to be different and plan a sparkling wedding. After all, you'll only get one chance to create your perfect wedding day.
